I have to admit, I am actually already back in the States. An unfortunate family emergency beckoned me back sooner than I had anticipated thus I am writing about my adventures in retrospect. Ultimately, my adventures in Guadalajara were unforgetable. Though I only enough people to count on one hand in this beautifully historic city, I had some of the best experiences in the week we were there.
In Guadalajara, I learned…
- Chivalry continues to live on in Mexico.
- Lucha Libre is the true Mexican version of WWE/Nacho Libre.
- San Juan de Dios is a HUGE indoor market with REALLY believable fake products.
- Lake Chapala is basically a retirement district for Americans with FANCY resorts.
- I met the sweetest dog under the sun (second to mine), Rico.
- Commuting by bus between cities and throughout the town is less than $1 per day.
- There’s a train that really goes to Tequila, but of course in my luck, it’s a bus, when the train breaks down.
- 95% of all the world’s tequila is produced in this district of Jalisco.
- People are MUCH darker skinned in the South.
- Without being carted around all the time like in Monterrey, I’m still safe in Mexico. BUT people will whistle and yell at two gringas walking by themselves. You just get used to the stares.
- The food is much more gentle, I actually didn’t get sick at all.
- There was a double decker bus tour all around the city and to Tlaquepaque for $6.
