To conclude the narrative of my Mexican adventure, I want to wrap up with my travels to Puerto Vallarta. Although my trip technically ended abruptly in Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta was one of the most amazing sights and experiences that I have ever had. I stayed in a lovely hotel, Hotel Posada de Roger, which was two blocks from the beach. The cozy little inn was all that we needed for our short four days in this beautiful spot. On the same street, some of the cutest cafes and restaurants provided our lunches and dinners including Margarita Grill and Fredy Toucan’s Breakfast.
On our first full day on the the beach, we decided to rent chairs from a beachfront hotel. For $15, we rented two chairs, an umbrella, gained access to the hotels three pools and hot tubs, had lunch and drink service. It was an amazing deal and made our day so enjoyable. Without a doubt, the Mexican beach was very interesting as vendors constantly badgered you to purchase their wares including beach wear, jewelry, hair braiding, food, henna tattoos, and much more. Although they were pestering us, these people were very friendly and were just trying to meet their goals for the day to take money home to their families. One salesman in particular, Ruben, approached us to sell us a boat tour. We almost immediately dismissed him as we had the others but he was very gentle and we were interested in this particular excursion. Ruben sat patiently with us for nearly an hour explaining the details of this trip which happened to be an 8 hour cruise to private islands and beaches with lunch and drink service. After all his efforts, we succumbed to his pitch and purchased the boat cruise — for only $350 pesos. (With the current conversion rate, this is only $28)
This adventure turned out to be a trip of a lifetime during which I went snorkeling for the first time in the Pacific Ocean at Los Arcos. We then traveled to Quimixto, a private beach, where we relaxed and bonded with other travelers. After this amazing adventure, we partied the two hour boat ride home with the fun-loving staff and crew of the boat, and I even danced with the attractive server 😉 Needless to say, it was an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to return to this beautiful destination.
I love Mexico, that is for sure. I want to share with all my readers my story and also lift up the amazing people of this nation who were extremely generous and hospitable to welcome me into their homes and show me their culture. Though it is unquestionably different from my life here in America, difference doesn’t always mean something negative. I learned so much in such a short time and although I was unsure or uncomfortable at times, you learn very quickly that it is next to impossible to be unhappy in a place that people live, love, and laugh everyday. Mexico changed my life and I cannot wait to return.
