Yesterday, I had the opportunity to tag along with the University of Kentucky’s chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi as they traveled to Lawrenceburg, Kentucky to visit the Four Roses and Wild Turkey bourbon distilleries. It was quite the exciting day. Did you know that 95% of the world’s bourbon is produced right here in the Bluegrass state? Touring these production facilities definitely took me back to Mexico when I toured the Herradura plant in the city of Tequila. The architecture in Four Roses was actually developed in the Mexican style! The history of bourbon production in my home state is quite lengthy and I was truly intrigued to learn about the production process that helps to create one of Kentucky’s greatest exports. I personally enjoyed the Four Roses tour more than that of Wild Turkey because I felt closer to the action and actual production rather than just a visitor in the factory. Wild Turkey does have a beautiful new visitor’s center (it just opened last week!) that we had the opportunity to tour and it was very nice! Ultimately, I had a wonderful day with my close friends on their professional development trip and am very thankful I got to go behind the scenes of the production of Kentucky’s proud export! As a bonus, I was able to check out the newly opened H&M store in Louisville since we were nearby! If you’re in the area, check it out — it’s huge!
