Sweater Weather – The Neighbourhood
I haven’t quite figured out what it is about this song that I like so much but, in my opinion, it’s just down right sexy. Something about the beat and the lyrics are extremely sensual and it completely turned something innocent and frumpy like an old sweater into something unbelievably seductive. I can dig it.
Country in My Soul – Florida Georgia Line
If you’re looking for a feel good song, this is it. I can’t even relate to everything mentioned in the lyrics because I’m still for the most part a city girl, but there’s something really nice about hearing popular country songs reference Garth Brooks on the radio — it’s really fitting for my generation. Nonetheless, this song makes me beg for summer to come back around because country music doesn’t mesh well with this cold and snow Kentucky has seen lately.
Sam Malone – City and Colour
In honor of the concert I recently attended (post&pics soon to come!), I pulled out all of my City and Colour albums and kept them on repeat leading up to the show. With so many new amazing tracks on The Hurry and the Harm, it’s easy to forget about all of the old Dallas Green songs that used to melt my heart. Sam Malone is no exception. When I was fourteen, I was in awe of such a track but probably hadn’t listened to it in three years until I put the band’s Pandora station on repeat everyday at work before the concert. With a delicate melody and Green’s soulful acoustic guitar, I’m ashamed to say I neglected this track for far too long.
Never Again – Kelly Clarkson
Since we’re on the trend of delving deep into my old iTunes library, I came across one of my old favorite songs that still struck the same chord in me. When Kelly Clarkson had shorter hair and Miley Cyrus still had eyebrows, there were a lot of musicians releasing angry break-up songs that I thought so related to me (I had no reason to think this). Nevertheless, Never Again has always been one of those songs that they play on the radio as a “throwback” and I find myself driving home from work, turning the volume up as loud as my speakers can tolerate, and singing the lyrics to the top of my lungs. Something about that anger she builds in the song and her discussion of eliminating the things in her life that cause her pain and hold her back is still so relevant.
