Spring semester has officially begun. After two first days of reading syllabuses, I can officially say that I am in my fourth semester of college. It’s quite overwhelming, just the thought of it. In May, I’ll be half way finished with this experience and have to actually decide what I’m going to spend my life doing. Too scary. A glimpse into my schedule this semester…
CIS 391: Rhetorical Power of Pop Culture
GWS 200: Sex and Power
GWS 301: Representations of Girlhood
SPA 322: Literature, Life, and Thought of Spanish America
Needless to say, I have quite the exciting semester ahead of me. Judge me if you will, but only taking 12 hours this time around I can already tell is one of the best decisions I’ve made recently. I’m already infinitely less stressed, and I’m finally reaching that point in my college career where I’m taking only classes that interest me and that I am genuinely looking forward to going to. One of my biggest struggles with having such fun interests, however, is experiencing quite a bit of overlap in some of my courses. Yes, it makes me a pro when it comes to discussion and references, but it becomes slightly redundant when you’re reading the same texts and having the same debates over and over again.
A few highlights from my first days back…
- My suitemate still sings, all night, in the bathroom. When will it end?
- Yesterday, my professor started speaking French. I quickly realized she was not my professor. Not only was I in the wrong room, I was in the wrong building. *facepalm*
- Instead of doing laundry and my first assignment after class, I took a two hour nap. Winning.
- The TA in my GWS class wore red heels and gold lamé pants on the first day. And she totally rocked it. If she ever wears something insanely fierce like that again, I’m taking her picture and doing a feature on her.
- My plans for a salad and Zumba turned into eating, off-campus, and falling asleep at 10pm.
I’d say I’m off to a great start.
For the last two hours, however, I’ve been trying to redeem myself by diligently sitting in the library and hiding from the cold outdoors. So far, I’ve ordered all the books I need for this semester with the exception of the one with a reading assignment due next week. I’ve written a blog entry for class, one for fun, and done quite a bit of browsing on Buzzfeed. Progress, right? This weekend is a long weekend (Thank you, MLK) so I plan to relax before things start to get really crazy. Best of luck to anyone else in the same boat!
With love from the basement of the library,
Sarah Alexandra
