At the University of Kentucky, particularly in the midst of a cold winter, campus “fashion” is virtually nonexistent. Whenever I see someone making a conscious effort to look flawless in snow, ice, and below-freezing temperatures, they definitely deserve a shout out. If a student or anyone braving the elements can overcome the Patagonia and Bean Boots trend, I am duly impressed. Remember my first day of the semester comments about my TA with the gold pants? Turns out her style outlasted the back-to-school pressure to look good and she absolutely kills the style game from what I can see on campus.
Without further ado, meet Adriana!
Who is your biggest fashion inspiration and why?
Dita Von Teese, for sure, because her style is so iconic! A mix between retro, gothic, but still with some modern edge.
Describe your style with five adjectives.
I tend to be really particular about the colors I wear, so those will serve as my five ‘adjectives’: red, black, white, gold and silver.
Describe your ideal summer outfit & your ideal winter outfit.
My go-to outfit for summers are sheer blouses tucked into high-waisted shorts— my polka dot ones are my favorite. My ideal winter outfit is a leather pleated skirt, cable knit tights, and a bolero jacket that way I’m warm but still not trudging around in sweats.
What are your top five favorite brands/designers/stores?
This one is difficult for me. My favorite stores are thrift stores, because you can find anything there. As for designers, when it comes to shoes Steve Madden is my favorite. When it comes to clothing I like clothing from Top Shop, this great retro website Pinup Girl Clothing, and Elie Tahari.
Top three favorite accessories you can’t live without?
My ‘Rosie the Riveter’ Bandana, liquid eyeliner, and statement necklaces.
Any last comments about style/trends on this campus?
I’ve noticed the style on campus is quite different from what I wear! Looks like I’ll just have to represent.
