This weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting one of my favorite little towns outside my college town of Lexington. Midway, KY is a small, quaint city with a population of fewer than 2,000, and a railroad that runs directly down Main Street. In Midway, you can find many delicious restaurants serving country favorites, and adorable little boutique stores with clothes, gifts, and handmade crafts. Midway in the early fall is one of my favorite spots in Kentucky because it offers warm colors, delicious smells, and a positive atmosphere. While you could take the interstate, driving the back roads to Midway from Lexington is the best way to go, and the roads are part of the Kentucky Scenic Driving Route. Passing numerous horse farms, pastures, and farm houses along the way, the drive to Midway is one of Central Kentucky’s most beautiful sights.
My impromptu weekend adventure to Midway was made possible by Zipcar, the latest and greatest company to provide freedom of transportation to students. Getting my Zipcar was easy – I simply applied for a Zipcard which unlocks any of the vehicles located conveniently in my city, made a reservation for which car I wanted to reserve for the day, and then I was on my way! Zipcar makes it possible for college students to take small road trips at affordable costs by offering low hourly and daily rates, cars reserved by the hour or day, and with access to individuals 18 and over. The best part? Gas and insurance are included when reserving a car. My Ford Focus Zipcar was perfect for driving to Midway for a scenic trip, getting us to a delicious lunch at The Grey Goose, and scouting out locations for my upcoming fall trends photoshoot! Ultimately, driving a new car is fun – Zipcar gives you that freedom and luxury at a price affordable to students.
Zipcar offers a truly innovative service to the college student who needs transportation for events and/or living necessities and may not have reliable transportation of their own. College freshmen or international students without cars on campus can use Zipcar on days when they need to run errands off campus and the city bus doesn’t have a practical route for them. Furthermore, student organizations such as a fraternities or sororities can reserve Zipcars for bonding trips outside of their college town to save on gas and to avoid putting mileage on a member’s car. Giving you 180 free miles to drive per day, Zipcar offers very new and clean vehicles to students that can be directly accessed on campus! Thanks to Ford, you can save $10 on your Zipcar reservation.
