Rounding out the end of my senior year, it’s definitely challenging to find motivation to finish strong. Kentucky weather has been unpredictably beautiful this week, and there are a thousand other things I’d rather be doing than studying. Finals week begins tomorrow and today I’m sharing my top five tips for doing your best!
- Where you study matters! I’m not going to tell you not to study in your bed – study locations vary person to person. At the very least, find a location with the fewest distractions possible, optimal lighting, comfy chairs, and a sturdy desk or table with enough space to spread out your materials. This includes not studying within easy reach of your cell phone!
- Hydrate! While that sixth trip to Starbucks may seem like the most appropriate move during your finals cram session, make sure you’re drinking ample water during finals week. You want to keep your body as hydrated as possible to stay alert and ready to do your best!
- Splurge on supplies. Budget your money appropriately, but spend a decent amount of money on pens, highlighters, notebooks, etc. that make you actually want to take notes! My favorite pens are black G2s used with an array of bright highlighters.
- Study in shorter increments. Take 10-15 minute breaks in between topics to let your brain process the content will help you better retain the information!
- Make lists and a notes sheet of the most important concepts to look over right before bed. This will keep the information fresh in your mind and also provide with a succinct study sheet to read through right before the exam begins!
