This week, I had the privilege of exploring two of my favorite passions at the same time: local food + small business. I jumped in behind the scenes with Metropolitan Donuts and Coffee owner Drew McCoy and team to devour some of their special donut creations. I was greeted with friendly and enthusiastic personalities who are passionate about serving their community.
I must say, a strong, clean aesthetic is a plus for any coffee house. Met Donuts embraces a neutral palette that is modern and eye-catching at every turn. Natural light that pours into the space on two sides doesn’t hurt to make the mini donuts that much more enticing. Donut builders extraordinaire also double as baristas who create the prettiest caffeinated beverages such as the cappuccino below. Choose from 11 coffee flavors in total!
Check out a few of the house favorites I got to try:
The Samoa
An old fashion donut topped with chocolate icing, toasted coconut, caramel, and marshmallow drizzle!
Strawberry Cheesecake
An old fashion donut, vanilla icing, graham cracker crust, strawberry & cream cheese drizzle!
The Piglet
An old fashion donut, maple icing, and bacon!
And a full-sized treat: The Key West
An old fashion donut, vanilla icing, graham cracker crust, and key lime drizzle!
My pick for best donut? Little Italy!
This petite little delight is an old fashion donut topped with cannoli cream, chocolate chips, and powdered sugar. Frankly, I’m pretty easy to please and a little partial to chocolate topped anything, but this special treat tops my list!
Don’t see anything that appeals to your taste buds? I was all too pumped to find out that there is a BYO (Build Your Own) option for donuts including the choice of 7 icings or sugars, 16 toppings, and 14 drizzles. Customers have the choice between mini and regular sized donuts served up on custom newsprint or packaged to go for your next event. Needless to say, I’ll be back.
