A few weeks ago, I had the best weekend visiting Lake Cumberland, Kentucky to celebrate one of my oldest friend’s upcoming marriage! We rented a houseboat for the weekend to bring eight girls together from around the country before her big day. The houseboat bachelorette party was one of my favorite experiences because it kept costs low for everyone to participate and made for a pretty low maintenance experience for all of us there. The decorations were low key, but incredibly festive as we used pool floats, balloons, and other nautical themed props to create the perfect weekend away. The boat itself was perfect for all us to hang out and sleep comfortably, and we had workers from the marina drive us out to our cove to dock for the weekend so no one had to worry about a boating license or operating the vessel.
Bachelorette parties can be somewhat daunting these days because of the pressure to have an Instagram-ready experience with all of your best friends. The travel time and costs involved make it difficult for some friends to participate. Lake Cumberland made for the most scenic backdrop for photos for the whole weekend and we definitely capitalized on the perfect golden hour with the water in the background. We spent two days floating, sipping, and snacking together as what served as a small high school reunion for those of us who had grown up together. Though several of us no longer live in Kentucky, the lake was a great rendezvous point for us to meet and to which we could get for relatively little cost. We carpooled down to the lake and packed all of our food and beverages with us. We cooked meals together on the boat including a full breakfast each day, sandwiches for lunch, and tacos for dinner. Snacks, sunscreen, and dry shampoo definitely kept the boat afloat for the weekend. Taking the stress of glam – hair, makeup, dresses, and heels – out of a bachelorette party made for a stress-free celebration and made packing and traveling a breeze. The money we saved eating in and making our own drinks is definitely something I want to replicate before my big day.
As you may know, I recently moved into a new house and we have had some pretty serious issues since closing. This weekend away was much needed to help me take a break from the stress of my current construction zone. The houseboat itself had 6 rooms and was shockingly roomy for 8 girls to make a home away from home. Between games, photo ops, naps, and floating by the boat, we had a great weekend together before we get to send our girl down the aisle. Thanks to Malibu Rum for helping us celebrate together and to enjoy some fresh cocktails with their newest flavor, Malibu Lime.
