It’s been six wonderful months of marriage since October 2nd, and I am finally done hoarding our beautiful memories to myself. Up next in the series to share our talented vendors, allow me to introduce you to Jesse Warren and Tyler Wylie from SkyMyles Entertainment. I knew from the initial stages of wedding planning that I wanted this duo at our event. As Lafayette High School alumni, I’ve known Tyler and Jesse for more than a decade and was thrilled to be able to support their growing business at our wedding. Hiring SkyMyles Entertainment means hiring a thoughtful team committed to making your event special and exciting.
Selecting a DJ for a wedding or other sentimental event can be tricky. We opted for a DJ for our wedding instead of a live band to be able to have variety in sound and feel for the many parts of the day. It’s important for you to consider how involved you want your DJ to be in your event and to communicate that upfront. DJ services can serve as an emcee with a big personality or fade more into the background depending on your preferences. It was extremely important to me that our DJ understood the flow of our event and kept the reception moving, while being social and encouraging to our guests. While we had originally envisioned a crowded dance floor until our send-off, the pandemic changed our plans significantly. What began as a vision for loud music and lots of our closest friends dancing through the night transitioned to a beautiful outdoor reception that was calm and slower paced.
Tyler and Jesse adapted our plans flawlessly to cover our wedding ceremony that was at a different, remote location away from our reception and without WiFi. Before our big day, I worked with them to share our plans for the day’s timeline, our song choices, and how we’d like the reception music to flow. SkyMyles has a form each couple completes so all of your needs are documented in one consistent place that includes walking you through the prelude, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and reception for your wedding. They also work very well with wedding planners/coordinators to make sure the communication is timely. Further, they were extremely flexible with our safety precautions due to the pandemic, and even kept the music flowing when colder temperatures after dark shifted the focus of the party away from the outdoor dance floor.
It’s so special to know that your vendors are business partners and also friends with great chemistry. Jesse and Tyler began making music together in high school for fun which eventually blossomed into the business they have now. After purchasing their first DJ controller, they practiced together nearly daily for 2.5 years until they were comfortable using the equipment at parties. A small business grew from there!
Tyler and Jesse say they function best as a team and that their hardest days at work come when they’ve had to host an event without the other. When we talked, they said, “having each other in hard times makes them a lot easier than trying to handle it alone.” Their clients get the best experience with the duo working together. Despite a growing business, Jesse and Tyler work full-time jobs in addition to serving clients – much like myself. I always really respect and appreciate an entrepreneurial spirit and hustle while still working full-time elsewhere. Jesse and his wife have a son and 8 animals (!!) at home. Family is also essential to Tyler as he prioritizes spending time with his niece, nephew, and goddaughter. Both are working toward DJing events and weddings full-time in the future.
Client and guest experience are essential to the SkyMyles mission. Jesse and Tyler strive to adapt to any situation while working an event to make sure everyone (older guests, included!) enjoys the entertainment. They work from a massive, personally curated music library and mix their own music, too! Beyond having an interest in DJing, both Tyler and Jesse are invested in the music industry as a whole. Jesse studies music theory and explores production software in his downtime, as well as plays the piano. Tyler is a graduate of the Lexington School of the Recording Arts puts his studies to use in his own music development.
Although our plans changed drastically from how we initially hoped to incorporate SkyMyles Entertainment at our wedding, we were so pleased with how music supported our event. One of the most impactful moments to me was our first dance. Alan and I danced to ‘Angels’ by Khalid, which we chose shortly after our engagement. As a wedding photographer, I’ve watched dozens of first dances fade into the background of a sea of chatter and other distractions. I wanted a special, reflective moment for everyone present in our dance together. Before, I imagined a booming reception venue with the haunting lyrics echoing off the walls. Although our reception was moved outdoors and drastically reduced in size, Jesse and Tyler made sure our audience was captivated at the time of our first dance and all eyes were on us. It will forever be a special memory for me.
I can’t recommend Tyler and Jesse from SkyMyles Entertainment enough for your future wedding celebration or event. If you’re interested in booking, be sure to connect with them on social media on Facebook and Instagram. You can also book by email here. Let them know I sent you!
